Haakon Gets a Virus

A lot has happened since our last post in the family. It all started with me going to Minot and getting 2 that's right count them 2 great nights of sleep, I should have known that it would come back to haunt me. Of course the days while I was gone when I called back home I was filled in on the sleepless nights going on. When I finally rolled home on Thurs. the next thing I knew the wife was out the door and I was left sitting on Solveig's bed trying to ready her a book with my left hand and holding a screaming baby on my right. We managed to make it all work and everyone went down for the night.

Friday I was starting to get ready for my prairie rose biking race that I was in charge of on Sunday and had to go back to Valley City to spray paint the course. The plan was to roll out early morning so I could get back early, well day care called at about 9:30 and the queen of biting was at her max of 3 for the day and had to come home (did I mention she maxed out early afternoon on Thurs) so now things aren't going as planned. When she goes down for her nap I get moving and when I'm leaving Chas says that Haakon isn't doing so well, so his temp was up and he wasn't eating and she is going to take him to the clinic to get checked out. On my way home about 3:30 I get the call that Haakon was told to go directly to the hospital. I got to the hospital about 15 min after the family arrived. We got really lucky as my cousin who just happens to be our pediatrician is working at the hospital that day. They immediately give the man a spinal tap and start pumping antibiotics into him, did I mention the IV in the hand.

We make it through the nite and get good news that all the tests were negative for bacteria so it is looking like a virus. Grandpa and Grandma rolled down mid morning Sat. to watch Solveig. Well in the mean time Chas comes down with a painful kidney infection in which she really can't move but manages to drive herself to the clinic and make it back w/ a pizza 4 hours later after just about passing out in the elevator. Sunday I had to go to Valley City for my bike race which was an easy decision but Haakon was discharged early by our favorite pediatrician who made a special trip up to make sure he was ok.

Check out our website for a few hospital pictures of the little man in his h-bed. He has a check up tomorrow to see how he is doing, he still isn't 100% but he is improving.

Workouts have been pretty non existent except for one great day running stairs in Minot last week.

07-07-07

It's been a few days since our last post but it's a busy place around here. Solveig had a good week, she hasn't bit any one since Wednesday when she took a few more bites out of her cousin Wyatt to celebrate the 4th of July. We're just trying to stay cool this weekend playing in the pool and enjoying the air conditioning. Haakon continues to grow every day and looks like a little old man with a pot belly.

On the workout front had a 10K race on Wednesday, ran it in 40:40 which is a PR but I totally fell apart the last 2 miles. Thursday did a recovery run and Friday tried to do the speed work out but my muscles didn't told me that I should about 3 miles into it. Our biking club had a great turn out at our Time Trial event, great job Steve! I'll be up in Minot for a few days this week and look forward to running the stairs at the high school. Next weekend is the Prairie Rose State games and I'm in charge of the road cycling race so wish me luck that it gets pulled off.

Sunday July 1, 2007

The S-crew has had a busy week as the 4th of July nears. Solveig continues her biting streak and there is no end in site. Her cousin Wyatt and his now 40 year old father came over on Saturday to hang out. The day started with the two rollin in the Burley up and down the street Later in the afternoon Solveig once again didn't want to share her car so when she saw Wyatt cruzin in her ride she rolled over to car jack it back and Wyatt wasn't going willingly so she slapped him and when that didn't work she went to the old back up and bit him.

Today we went out to a friend's cabin in MN and within the first 10 min Solveig struck quickly, biting Isaac. A reliable source (5 yr. old female) made a statement that Isaac took a toy from Solveig and that was her response. She needs to realize when she is a guest and probably not a welcome guest at that point.

I went to the dentist on Wednesday and and they got me an emergency appointment for root canal on Thursday. The actual root canal itself wasn't that enjoyable but after it was done I didn't have any pain, so I can't complain.

On the work out side- Went for a 44 mile 2:30 hour ride on Wednesday. Thursday I ran before my root canal 4 miles. Friday morning I got up and biked to the track work out and did 14 laps in 21:21. Sunday went for a 1hr 30 min ride on a Trek size small Mt. bike with the brakes motorcycle style and an old school rapid rise dérailleur, that would because my forgetfulness forgot my shoes, but that is was a good change of pace.
